Meals & Deals: Week of 7/19/2015

Frugal Moms² meal plan for the week of 7/19/2015.

Last week I didn’t get a chance to make most of the snacks, so I’m going with familiar snack recipes (smoothies) this week and trying some new lunch recipes. I kept most of the dinners in familiar territory, because the pace of things lately has been very hectic at work, plus trying to work on Frugal Moms² and Frugal Foodie Moms after the kids go to bed.

I launched Frugal Foodie Moms about a week ago, with a focus completely on food. Frugal Moms² will focus more on the nuts and bolts of frugal living, but I’ll keep the recipes up that are already here. I just feel like I’m drowning people in them! You feedback is welcome. I love to hear from you all about what you’d like to see on both sites. Just comment below or use the form on the Contact Us page to send your ideas, questions and suggestions.

Meals & Deals: Week of 7/12/2015

This week is all about having fun in the kitchen! I’m not trying as many new recipes as I normally do. I’m creating them instead! And I can’t wait to share them with you! I’ll link to them as soon as they are up! I’ve started marking them on my calendar as “New Recipe:”. It helps me keep track of them.

June 2015 Grocery Budget Review

So now that I have a month of meal plans and shopping trips up, I thought it would be good to see how I did. The numbers are in, and I’m not happy with them. They’re not horrible for a family of 5 + animals, but they could be a lot better. I know a lot of people do not include their household items like toiletries, diapers and pet food in their grocery bill. I do, simply because I’m buying most of it at the same stores and it’s easier to just keep everything together. I did break it down just to see where I was spending it.

The numbers looked better once I broke them down. They don't add up perfectly because diapers were mixed in a bit with Kroger and Aldi totals.

Cutting the Fat When Times are Lean

I just cut $1000 a year of “fat” from our budget. And it wasn’t horribly painful. I’ve let a few fun “me” things slip into the budget that I absolutely love and use. But my husband has been unemployed for nearly 2 months now. It’s time to tighten the belt a bit more, because I don’t know how long that’s going to last, and every little bit really does add up. Our frugal meal plan for the week of 6/28/2015

Note: If you’re already on Plan to Eat, send a friend request to me at FrugalMoms2. You can add this and any of my meal plans directly to your own calendar, with the recipes! Or click here to sign up, and I’ll be automatically added.

Do you have one paycheck a month that is squeaky tight? Or all of them? The one that especially gets us is around the end of the month, when our mortgage comes out. The payment isn’t bad, but when you add in daycare for two kids, gas and groceries, there’s not much left over, especially when you factor in unemployment.

On top of all of that this week, my teenager is turning 18! While I’m excited about this, it’s a bit of a stretch and a challenge but we’ll still find ways to have fun. I’m planning on taking the day off and spending it with him. He’s asked to go to his favorite Chinese buffet for lunch, which is doable when it’s just the two of us. We might hit a movie or go hiking. Depends on our crazy weather. Continue reading →
